This from Austin Tea Party Patriots/Texas Tea Party Patriots ...
There has been an email circulated from IRCOT and other groups that say that some Republican House members, perhaps even Republican House leaders, will be pushing for a Voter ID bill that is significantly weaker than the Voter ID bill coming out of the Senate. We don't know who those misguided Republicans might be or how many of them there are, if any.
We've spoken in the last couple of hours with some of the Speaker's staff, and we're hearing that the Speaker's office is in favor of at least as strong a bill as what comes out of the Senate. No non-photo verification allowed. The proof will be in the pudding, but that's what we have been told.

This from Dagne, San Antonio:
I received the email below from Grassroots Texans Network, as well as several friends. I'm as concerned as anyone that SB 14 might be watered down and we will be left with an impotent voter ID bill.
Lyle Larson is my Rep- I sent him a text message about my concerns that Straus and Co might do just that. Here is his exact response...
"Absolutely not..house has not even started. Committee assignments are handed out on Monday. Senate is debating it now and any dilution that is taking place is over there. With 101 republicans in house our bill will require proper identification before anyone votes PERIOD!!!"
I responded with the following...
"...A strong voter id bill must pass this session. No one must water it down...."
>From Rep. Larson...
"Agree...lot of energy up here to get this done."
Bottom line- I'm not going to panic on this one. Yet. But it never hurts to make it clear to legislators that we want no "funny business".
We all need to stay on top of what is going on in Austin. Voter ID, requiring a real birth certificate before a candidate can be put on the ballot in TX, the budget debt/deficit... There's no end of critical issues.
If we all stay involved, this legislative session can be a winner. |
