The following is a statement from Torin Archbold of the Austin Tea Party Patriots regarding the recent race-baiting comments by the NAACP and others and the obligation of tea partiers to set the record straight:
“The question is, do Tea Party activists and founders tolerate racism? I would have to say that they do, although the racism is coming from a surprising source. I would have to say that I am witnessing it daily and that I feel it's my duty as a Tea Party activist and American to right the wrong I see.
There is a quote that I will now live my life by: ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.’
I have been a Tea Party Patriot in Austin, Texas since the April 15th, 2009 Tea Party at the Texas State Capitol. I have been to many meetings and many events and have experienced absolutely no racism at all. I saw no signs and have heard no racial epithets thrown in any direction at anyone, but that does not exonerate tea partiers from being guilty of not fighting liberal racism when they find it.
When the NAACP decided to create a resolution that accused the Tea Party of allowing racist elements at their events, I was confused and puzzled because I had never personally seen it. I had heard about it in the news and from commentators on television, but nothing first hand. But as the story grew and grew I began to see the guilt of those being accused. I began to realize why they were being targeted and why it made so much sense to do so. I must thank the NAACP, for bringing this to the attention of us all, so we can finally end it.
I guess I am a Tea Party whistle blower. I am going to tell it like it is and let the chips fall where they may.
The white men in the Tea Parties are afraid to speak. They will deny and deny that they are racists and they will deny that they allow racist acts, all the while allowing the true racists to put them on the defensive. They give ground, and allow the true racists to define the argument and set the rules of engagement. They have apparently bought into the belief that a black man can call a white man anything in creation, but if a white man says anything unflattering in the least, to or about a man or woman of color, he is by definition a racist. If this behavior is allowed to continue, then the good men are allowing the evil men to prevail. The Tea Party needs to fight this obvious racism. If they do not, and they allow the NAACP to make these baseless charges about them unchallenged and unfought, they will truly be guilty of allowing racist acts to be tolerated. I am going to stand up in defiance of the race baiters and confront them every time they choose to accuse those of the behavior that they themselves have displayed for so very long.
Join me in this defiance and trust the American people to see the truth and give them the credit to be able to identify the lies.
Torin Archbold
