Austin Tea Party Patriots on the Nullification Rally in Austin
We agree with the Constitutional foundation. We need to be cognizant about proposing nullification efforts without being realistic about their chances for short-term (as opposed to long-term) success, given what our courts have done over the years. If we think we can just yell "nullification" and have this madness stop, we will be seen as shouting into the wind. On the other hand, taking careful steps toward a longer-term nullification strategy - with shorter-term litigation and other strategies - makes more sense, and will require effective education of the people and our elected officials. As noted conservative constitutional scholar Prof. Larry Barnett has said, ""While using federal power to force individuals to buy private insurance raises serious constitutional questions, I just don't see what these state resolutions add to the constitutional objections to this expansion of federal power."
We are preparing a position flyer on the subject of nullification and will have it ready sometime later this week.
In the meantime, we are not looking to discourage anyone from attending the rally at the Capitol on the 16th. We just want everyone to go with an educated viewpoint.
