July 4th update…
The Austin Tea Party Patriots continued to spread their grassroots message of “limited government, fiscal responsibility and adherence to the Constitution” at a no-politicians tea party rally on Friday, July 3, at Zilker Park In Austin. Approximately 700 patriots were treated to speeches by Jonathan Saenz, Dr. Clare Gray and Dr. Donald May about the necessity of fighting for less government intrusion and taxation of the American people, especially in the healthcare arena. The rally was emceed by local morning conservative talk show host, Sergeant Sam of KLBJ, and featured a keynote speech by Joe the Plumber, who extolled the necessity of reading and learning the Constitution. Shirley Markley stirred the rally-goers with a spirited reading of what people are calling the “Glenn Beck letter.” Greg Holloway shared some of the future tea party plans, including the possibility of a national grassroots agenda and town hall meetings to put the people in direct contact with the 2010 political candidates. Once again, love of country and distaste for the current political agenda was the central theme. The rally was well-covered by local media (see links below) and was preceded by a front page article in the Friday morning edition of the Austin American Statesman (see link below) on the Austin Tea Party patriots’ grassroots approach.
